Art’s great nudes have gone skinny

Italian artist Anna Utopia Giordano has created a visual re-imagination of historic nude paintings, had the subjects conformed their bodies to what the 21st century considers an ideal of beauty. The results are revealing—and quite shocking in what they say about the modern attitude toward women’s bodies.

The common Garter Snake does not lay eggs, it carries and gives birth to its young just like mammals do. To survive the winter, these reptiles will seek a hibernacula (aka hibernation den). In Northern regions where decent dens are scarce, many snakes (sometimes hundreds) will often hibernate together.

A Nazi-looted painting of St. Catherine of Alexandria by Bernardo Strozzi was returned to its owner on Friday 22 November. She has placed it on view at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and has promised to donate it to LACMA. Painted by Strozzi around 1615, the saint was in the collection of Charles A. Loeser (d. 1928) in Florence. Loeser’s widow and heirs fled Florence prior to the German occupation of the city, and the painting seemingly vanished in April 1944. Milan-based art dealers Marco Voena and Fabrizio Moretti approached Sotheby’s about selling the work in 2009, but research into its provenance revealed it was on lists of Nazi-looted artworks.

The only thing better than being in the middle of a depressive episode is I passed out in the shower and am currently lightheaded and shaking and my heart is racing so I try to call in sick to work

and the district manager came in and my boss’s mom’s in the hospital and she has no one to watch the kids so I’m just going in an hour later than usual in the hopes that the DM is gone then

Titarubi is one of Indonesia’s most important feminist artists, and she’s regularly got in trouble with conservative authorities over her installations that interrogate representation of the human body.
When invited to create a work in the colonial building of the National Museum of Singapore, she built an 850-metre tall replica of Michelangelo’s David (twice as tall as the original) and covered it with pink brocade - the same material used in sarong kebaya, the traditional women’s costume of Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore.

This was a monumental work of art that playfully feminised the male form and Asianized the European tradition. It had loads of visiting schoolkids in giggles over the colossal pink dong - but they loved it, all the same.

I hate myself so much right now and I don’t think any of my usual coping mechanisms will work and I don’t have the energy to cry but I probably will because it will help me unknot my stomach enough to sleep and I can’t let myself hurt me but jesus what the fuck am I supposed to do

I keep picking at my skin and I’m getting so ugly and I really wish I could stop and right now it’s taking a lot to not scratch my skin away I’m trying to concentrate my thoughts and type so my hands are busy

Why am I worthless why can’t I do anything about it
